The highly anticipated Ultimate Spider-Man comic book series by Jonathan Hickman and Marco Chechetto, serving as a relaunch of the Ultimate Marvel universe, has just dropped its first issue and it contains a lot of surprises. Here is what happens in the issue with spoilers.
What Happens in Ultimate Spider-Man #1(2024)?
In Ultimate Spider-Man #1, which takes place in an alternate reality, an adult Peter Parker is shown to be married to Mary Jane Watson and has two children. He also does not possess spider powers. However, at the end of the comic, Peter who has been suspecting that something is off about his life learns from a hologram of Tony Stark from six months into the future that he was supposed to be bitten by a radioactive spider years ago and become a superhero. He also learns that Maker (an evil version of Reed Richards) ended up creating the alternate reality he is in by traveling through time to erase superheroes from existence.
Upon realizing this, Peter who had a motivating pep talk with Mary Jane earlier soon takes the technological ball given to him by Stark containing a radioactive spider and lets it bite him, becoming Spider-Man again.
Is Uncle Ben alive?
Yes, Uncle Ben is alive. In this reality, he was never killed by the burglar which motivated Peter into becoming Spider-Man.
In this reality, Ben serves as a managing editor of the Daily Bugle and works alongside his nephew Peter and J. Jonah Jameson, whom he is good friends with. However, he soon leaves the Bugle after Jonah leaves due to structural changes demanded by Wilson Fisk, who bought the company. After this, he and Jonah then plan to start their own news business, even inviting Peter to join them in the endeavor.
What happened to Tony Stark?
Tony Stark was framed by The Maker and his council for an attack on Manhattan that killed a lot of civilians after learning about the dark history of his universe, stumbling upon the Maker’s plans, and trying to stop him.
Stark then went on a mission to restore Earth’s iconic superheroes to stop The Maker, starting with Peter Parker, whom he helps regain his spider powers and become Spider-Man again.
