In Masashi Kishimoto’s Naruto, Obito gives Kakashi Hatake his Sharingan. Sadly, Madara takes away the Sharingan during the Fourth Great Ninja War, leaving the Copy Ninja devoid of his newly gained powers. Since he could employ Susanoo because of his Sharingan powers, the question remains: can Kakashi still use Susanoo?
Susanoo is directly associated with the Mangekyou Sharingan. As such, since Mangekyou Sharingan is unique to the Uchihas, the Susanoo also becomes an exclusive trait of the Uchiha clan. To understand how Kakashi got access to the Sharingan despite not being a Uchiha, one has to go back to the Third Great Ninja War.
Obito Uchiha, who was Kakashi’s friend and teammate at the time, gave his Sharingan to Kakashi while he was on the verge of death. As time passed, the latter activated the Mangekyou Sharingan and went on to harness the Susanoo. However, later on, Madara Uchiha snatched away his Sharingan during the war.
Can Kakashi still use Susanoo after losing his Sharingan?
To put it simply, Kakashi cannot use Susanoo anymore after losing his Sharingan, and here’s why.
To activate the Susanoo, the user of Mangekyou Sharingan needs to awaken Tsukuyomi and Amaterasu. Since it is a chakra avatar, the user’s chakra and personality are tightly linked with the Susanoo. Moreover, as seen in Sasuke’s case, intense emotions—whether hatred or sorrow—can amplify Susanoo’s manifestation.
Kakashi, a non-Uchiha, could use the Mangekyou Sharingan at the cost of his stamina. However, he managed to awaken his Mangekyou Sharingan when he unintentionally killed Rin with Chidori. Hence, Kakashi activated the Susanoo along with other newfound abilities.
When Kakashi fought against Kaguya Otsutsuki, he manifested the Susanoo. Though he later sacrificed the Susanoo, making its appearance momentary, the fact that he could harness it surprised the characters as well as fans. However, with Obito’s death and Madara’s confiscation of the Sharingan in the Fourth Great Ninja War, Kakashi lost the Susanoo and its powers.
