MatPat aka Matthew Patrick had built an impressive fanbase via his YouTube channel The Game Theorists through which he offered trusted guides to help video game players solve problems troubling them. So, his announcement that he’s retiring from YouTube has come as a shock and surprise to his fans and they are wondering why he is retiring. Here is all you need to know.
Why is MatPat retiring?
MatPat is retiring from YouTube on account of personal reasons and in order to spend more time with his family, including his son Ali.
In an emotional video, he recently uploaded on YouTube, titled “Goodbye Internet”, MatPat revealed in the earlier part of the video that he was retiring for personal reasons and to spend more time with his family, especially with his son Ali. He also revealed that he and his wife Steph, who also managed the channel with him, knew that they would eventually be retiring and that they would not want to keep uploading so much that their work would come first and their family last.
However, MatPat then revealed that The Game Theorists channel alongside the spin-off channels, Film Theory, Food Theory, and Style Theory will be hosting nine more theory videos over the next ten weeks till March 9, which will be when he uploads his final video, titled “MatPat’s Final Theory”.
MatPat is the latest known YouTuber to announce his retirement after Tom Scott, who announced his retirement from weekly and consistent uploads.
Has MatPat quit YouTube and The Game Theorists?
As of writing, MatPat has not yet quit YouTube. He will retire after March 9, which is when he will upload his final video “MatPat’s Final Theory”. However, he will still be involved with the channels in some creative capacity.
After uploading the final video, MatPat will effectively retire from active YouTube and hand over control of all four channels: The Game Theorists, Film Theory, Food Theory, and Style Theory to key members of his content-creating team. However, MatPat will still be involved on a supporting scale in directional and creative roles.
