What happened at the end of Percy Jackson and the Olympians Episode 5?
Episode 5 ends with Ares fixing a ride for the leading trio to reach Hermes after Percy and Annabeth retrieve Ares’ shield from Hephestus.
At the Waterland amusement park built by Hephestus, we see Percy sacrificing himself and getting trapped in Hephestus’ golden chair. But instead of taking Ares’ shield and running right away, Annabeth tries to free her friend.
Looking at Percy’s actions, she tells Hephaestus that they aren’t all about glory and war for dominance. Both she and Percy are about fighting for what’s right. Hephaestus finds their motivation to be similar to his and decides to let Percy go.
So, the both of them return with Ares’ shield, who then holds up to his end of the bargain. He hooks up a ride for Percy, Grover, and Annabeth to reach Hermes without being caught. He also explains that if the trio plays their cards right, then Hermes will directly send them to Hades’ lair to complete their quest.
Who stole the Lightning Bolt in Percy Jackson and the Olympians?
In the Percy Jackson books and movies, the Lightning thief was revealed to be Luke Castellan, the son of Hermes and May Castellan. That’s likely the case in the show as well.
Towards the end of episode 5, Grover states that he figured out who the Lightning Bolt thief is. So, in their journey to reach Hermes (played by Lin-Manuel Miranda) in LA in episode 6, we could come across the revelation that Hermes’ son Luke (played by Charlie Bushnell) stole the lightning bolt.
Anyone who has seen Logan Lerman’s first Percy Jackson movie or read Rick Riordan’s first book would be aware that Luke stole the lightning bolt. He is the friend Percy was warned about earlier in the series and who betrays his trust.
Luke was manipulated to do so by Kronos and Ares is also a part of the scheme, which is what allowed Grover to figure out who the real thief is. Luke believes that the Gods have lost their way, and a change in the leadership is needed. But with Percy wanting to stop the war, the final confrontation between him and Luke will be interesting to witness!
