Starring Jang Dong-Yoon as Kim Baek-Du and Lee Joo-Myoung as Oh Yu-Gyeong, Like Flowers in Sand Episode 5 was aired on Wednesday on Netflix and ENA. It featured the Geosan County people in shock because of another death in town.
In episode 4 ending, Baek-Du confronts Yu-Gyeong about her job. So far, he discovers that she is his childhood friend, Du-Sik, and is an undercover cop. The latest episode 5 begins with a flashback when the town was gossiping about Du-Sik’s family. Back to the present day, Baek-Du decides to return to wrestling after announcing his retirement a while ago.
On his first day, the team asks Park Dong-Chan about their former coach Yeon Sang-Chul’s whereabouts. The members, including Baek-Du, mention that he took money from them, promising to return after the last match. The team later finds out that Sang-Chul is found dead in his car.

The news of coach Yeon Sang-Chul’s death shocks the town in Like Flowers in Sand episode 5. A day before the news, Yu-Gyeong learns that he took money from the ssireum team members. Baek-Du gave him the highest amount of money for bidding. Yu-Gyeong scolded Baek-Du for lending him the money. When Jang Dong-Yoon’s character tells her that he will ask the coach to return his money, she says that he won’t get it back. The next day, he finds out the coach is dead and realizes that Yu-Gyeong knew about it.
Baek-Du hears his team members gossiping about Sang-Chul’s death and his match-fixing story. They claim that the late coach wanted Lim Dong-Seok to lose the last match to Baek-Du and was upset when the opposite happened.
Yu-Gyeong, on the other hand, thinks Sang-Chul’s death is connected to the town’s first recent death of Choi Chil-Seong. To dig deeper into the coach’s case, she asks Baek-Du about Dong-Seok. She then decides to pay him a visit to find out about the day of the match. To her surprise, Baek-Du tags along with her.
When they meet Dong-Seok, they learn that Sang-Chul told him to not win the match against Baek-Du. However, he refused the offer, which made Sang-Chul anxious. Baek-Du comforts him by saying that the coach’s death is not his fault. During the conversation, Yu-Gyeong finds out that Sang-Chul was distressed during the match and was looking at someone in the crowd.

Towards the K-drama Like Flowers in Sand Episode 5 ending, Yu-Gyeong’s work partner, Min Hyeon-Uk, becomes curious about Du-Sik. When he doesn’t find answers from the townspeople, he befriends cafe owner Joo Mi-Ran. She tells him that people start acting weird whenever Du-Sik’s name is mentioned. Hyeon-Uk is shocked when she tells him that Du-Sik is a woman and is Baek-Du’s first love.
Meanwhile, viewers see Baek-Du and Yu-Gyeong/Du-Sik return to the town after their trip. She tells him that his decision to return to the sserium team is correct. When he asks why, she says that it is because he likes sserium and cannot live without it. To this, Baek-Du replies, “That’s not all. There’s another reason why I came back to the sserium team. Can’t you see that?”
Yu-Gyeong looks at him flustered. He adds, “It’s because of you. I came back because of you,” creating a romantic atmosphere at Like Flowers in Sand Episode 5’s end.
