A new prediction from industry analyst Dr. Serkan Toto suggests that the successor to the Nintendo Switch will likely be more of an “iteration” than a major advancement.
GameIndustry.biz posted the Kantan Games CEO’s gaming industry forecast for 2024, which included a segment about the follow-up console to Nintendo’s current system. Expected to arrive at some point this year, the unnamed console has been subject to plenty of speculation in regards to its pricing and power. Toto believes it will cost $400 and will be “an iteration rather than a revolution,” suggesting it may not be an enormous technical step up.
“The time is finally here for a Switch successor, even though I can say a ‘Pro’ model actually did exist and certain developers were already working with the dev kit,” Toto stated. “I believe the next hardware will drop next year for $400. There is a high chance that games will cost more, too: $70. The next system is also likely to be an iteration rather than a revolution. Nintendo might add some bells and whistles to the device, but it will be similar to the current Switch.”
He also predicts that the Switch’s successor will retain its handheld nature, as Pokémon will be on the console and since “Pokémon is associated with handheld gaming, there is no way on earth Nintendo will drop the portability feature for their next big thing.”

The Nintendo Switch initially released on March 3, 2017 and has proven to be a massive success, selling 132.46 million units as of last September. Several of Nintendo’s most iconic franchises have had new installments release on the console, including Mario, The Legend of Zelda, Animal Crossing, Pokémon, Fire Emblem, and Xenoblade Chronicles.
