Saul Bass’ cult classic sci-fi horror Phase IV is getting a 4K UHD release for the first time ever from Vinegar Syndrome.
Phase IV 4K UHD Release Brings Killer Ants Closer
The Phase IV 4K UHD release will be presented in multiple cuts for the first time on video, which likely means the alternate ending is in there.
The film’s story sees desert ants suddenly form a collective intelligence and begin to wage war on the human inhabitants. It is up to two scientists and a stray girl they rescue from the ants to destroy them.
Saul Bass was more widely known for his mesmerizing title sequences for films such as Vertigo, Anatomy of a Murder, and Martin Scorcese’s Cape Fear. Phase IV marks the one and only time he sat in the director’s chair. The film was originally released back in 1974, so it will be celebrating its 50th anniversary later this year.
Phase IV stars Nigel Davenport (Peeping Tom), Michael Murphy (Batman Returns), Lynne Frederick (Four of the Apocalypse), and Alan Gifford (2001: A Space Odyssey). The Phase IV 4K UHD release is due sometime in February 2024.
