Is Tom Cruise returning for Edge of Tomorrow 2?
While Tom Cruise is interested in returning for Edge of Tomorrow 2, the movie has been constantly delayed due to scheduling issues.
Tom Cruise has been involved with Mission: Impossible 7 and 8 for several years. After that, he is scheduled to film his outer space film. It was always presumed that he’d return to do an Edge of Tomorrow sequel after these films. But since their production kept on being delayed, he hasn’t been able to find the right timing for Edge of Tomorrow 2.
While appearing on Variety‘s Awards Circuit Podcast, Cruise’s Live Die Repeat co-star expressed her interest in returning for a sequel. But she confirmed that the film hadn’t happened because of Cruise’s busy schedule. She said:
“Doug and I talk all the time about it. I know Tom wants to do it, hopefully, at some point. But it’s timing, but it’s also been ten years since we made it … There was an amazing script in the works, but I think it would only have worked if we shot it eight years ago. I’m not saying we’re that ancient, but you have to factor in it’s been ten years.”
So, it’ll be interesting to see if Cruise and Blunt will reunite once the former is done with M: I 8 and the untitled space movie that he is set to be a part of.
Will there be an Edge of Tomorrow 2?
There’s still a chance of Edge of Tomorrow 2 to happen. But it may not go under production for a few years.
The Edge of Tomorrow sequel largely depends on Tom Cruise’s availability and interest. It will surely happen if the actor decides to make it a priority. But since he is booked for the next 2 years or so, we may not see Edge of Tomorrow 2 for a while. Furthermore, the script of the film might also need a few tweaks, since Blunt herself has said she believes it to be potentially outdated.
