Sharktopus Remake Trailer Puts New Spin on Low-Budget Creature Feature

There’s a Sharktopus remake from a Chinese studio, and the trailer shows it might have a bit less modest a budget than the original.

Extra Bite

The Sharktopus remake was released in China last week and currently has no international release date, but the trailer is here for you to get your teeth into.

Based on the 2010 Roger Corman-produced Sharktopus directed by the late Declan O’Brien (Wrong Turn 3-5), the Chinese film sees a group of people on a cruise ship suddenly attacked by a strange hybrid beast that is part shark and part octopus.

The Sharktopus remake is directed by Xu Shi-Xing (Monser’s Battlefield, Crocodile Island) and Hu Dong-Sheng (Romantic). It stars Michelle Ye (Restart the Earth), Luo Li-Qun (Land Shark), Chen Wen-Jun, and Lemon Li.

O’Brien and Corman’s original film was part of a wave of low-budget shark movies that have included Sand Sharks, Atomic Shark, Ghost Shark, and Trailer Park Shark. Oh, and a little thing called Sharknado.

Sharktopus spawned its own series of daft follow-ups Sharktopus Versus Pteracuda and Sharktopus vs. Mermantula.
