Aquaman 2: Is King Shark in the Lost Kingdom?

Among the many characters that showed up in the Aquaman 2 trailer, fans wonder if they also saw King Shark. Before Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom, King Shark appeared in James Gunn’s The Suicide Squad. But is he returning in the upcoming Aquaman outing as well? Here’s all you need to know.

No, King Shark is not in Aquaman 2.

Fans of the Suicide Squad shark no doubt would have loved to see King Shark, aka Nanaue, show up in Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom. The interactions between him and Arthur Curry would have been a treat. However, that doesn’t seem to be happening.

None of the multiple hammerhead humanoid shark creatures we saw in the trailer are supposed to be Nanaue. Fans could be confusing them with King Shark because, in the comics, he has had a hammerhead design, which James Gunn opted against.

One could argue that this Aquaman story could take place in the new George Clooney timeline that Barry Allen created. Meanwhile, The Suicide Squad, Peacemaker, and other projects might exist in James Gunn’s new DC Universe. So, in theory, Aquaman 2 could have a King Shark variant amongst those hammerhead sharks.

However, the sharks in Aquaman 2 just seem like regular warriors belonging to a secluded Shark society, which may or may not be situated in the titular “Lost Kingdom.”

Who is the shark in Aquaman 2?

The hammerhead sharks in the Aquaman 2 trailer could be shark warriors working for Karshon, or even Black Manta.

In DC comics, Karshon is a mutagenic evolved shark. He used to be a tiger shark. However, upon getting exposed to high levels of radiation, he evolved several thousand times within a matter of minutes.

It’s confirmed that Indya Moore is playing Karshon in Aquaman 2. Therefore, it’s likely that the hammerhead sharks we see in the trailer could be working for Karshon. With his smarts, he could have established a secluded society of evolved sharks.

It’s also possible that one of the hammerhead sharks — presumably the left one — from the trailer could be Karshon. He could be working for Black Manta, who wields the Black Trident now.

Since James Gunn used the tiger shark design for Nanaue, James Wan might have used the hammerhead design on Karshon to differentiate him from Nanaue in live-action.
